Day 2: Sarah

Her name means princess or chieftainess. Anna Spangler and Jean E Syswerda describe Sarah as a risk taker of the first order, a woman who said good-bye to everything familiar to travel to a land she knew nothing about. A real flesh-and-blood kind of woman who lived an adventure more strenuous than any fairy-tale heroine, an adventure that began with a promise and ended with laughter.

She had a promise over her life, a promise to mother a new nation. Exciting as it was to hear such news, the seemingly delayed fulfillment of the promise brought sadness to this beautiful woman. Yes, she was beautiful that's why his husband at some point 'sold' her to Pharoah.

How could a woman well put together as Sarah be unable to conceive? She had everything but a child. And all she ever wanted was not really a nation but a baby of her own. She didn't ask to mother a nation. She wanted a baby.

How many of us look at the promises of God over our lives which are seemingly delaying and all we ever want is a part of that promise to give us joy unexplainable. Be encouraged oh Sarah because He that promised is faithful. Indeed your latter shall be greater than your former and beauty shall be given to you in place of ashes. His promises are yes and amen. God's timing is always perfect. No Ishmael that we cook for ourselves can replace Isaac. Wait patiently on the Lord and trust Him to perfect that which concerns you.

In the quest to 'help' God fulfill the promise of a son, Sarah gave Abraham her Egyptian maid, Hagar, with the hope that this Egyptian maid would become the surrogate mother to the promised child. But that wasn't what God had promised them. He is God all by Himself. What He said He will do, that is what He will do. We may not see any way out except for Hagar but His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts higher than our thoughts.

God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?Though it tarry, wait for it. It's for an appointed time. Wait I say, wait!
