"May you never become so busy you neglect to enjoy the life you create" - Sacred Rest (Saundra Dalton Smith)
---
My October Read has loaded and I'm excited to be sharing on it. I just started reading it last night and the opening statement (quoted above) hit me so hard. I've fallen victim to that many a times. A routine so busy it doesn't even give you time to breath. A lifestyle so packed with things to do you never get a moment's rest. We become so busy with life we literally neglect to enjoy the life we are trying so hard to create. We build houses and we don't even have the time to relax and enjoy them. We become so busy making money we forget that money is meant to work for us not the other way around.
This book teaches us how to rest. How to breath in the midst of such a busy lifestyle we find ourselves engrossed in. It's a manual that will teach you and I how to practice the art of rest. She describes rest as that which speaks peace into the daily storms that our spirit, minds and bodies encounter.
"A life without periods of rest will not endure the daily grind. Rest is not for weaklings. Hollowing out space for rest is work. Finding time for rest is the hands and feet of the promises we long to claim. It means saying no. It means having limits with ourselves. It means having limits with others. It takes courage to rest in the midst of an outcome-driven society. It takes strength to walk away from good in the pursuit of better."
More than anything my desire in reading this book is to begin to enjoy life. To embrace the life that Christ says He has come to give us. A life in abundance. So much has been stolen, killed and destroyed from our lives by both the thief and the thief in us. I want to enjoy life the way children do. To be able to stand outside in the rain and laugh as the raindrops touch my skin. To be able to enjoy the feel of warmth as the sun's rays hit my face. Children enjoy that. Children notice that. May we do too.
“Sometimes it’s important to work for that pot of gold. But other times it’s essential to take time off and make sure your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow.” - Douglas Pagels
When we master the art of resting we will take better care of our bodies and give them the longevity to serve us better and that's the skill that this book brings across. We become more productive, more fruitful and serve better when we are well rested. Get a copy of the book and indulge.
Remember: “When I am resting because my body is weak, I need to remember that I’m not wasting the day doing nothing. I am doing exactly what I need to do. I’m recovering.” - Author Unknown
